How are we to read/understand the passage below?

I’m seeing this passage used to mock the Bible. Often condensed to ”Boys jeer a bald guy and two bears maul 42 of them.”

Here is the passage:
2 Kings 2:23-24 New International Version (NIV)
Elisha Is Jeered

23 From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some boys came out of the town and jeered at him. “Get out of here, baldy!” they said. “Get out of here, baldy!” 24 He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the Lord. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys.

It might be helpful to read this thread. There are a couple of resources that will help to explain what is going on.

The idea of the Bible being mocked is an unfortunate byproduct of the faith I believe that Jesus warned us of that reality. I have to admit that it pains me also went I heard people mock the Bible and my Lord for serveral reason but mostly that people let such insignificant things keep them for the truth and the love of God. take a look at this link and report back to group.
