Beyond Fear and into the Peace of God

On Take Five today, RZIM speaker Shawn Hart takes a closer look at what assumptions lie behind our admiration of courage and sacrifice in the face of fear. Shawn reveals to us that because all human beings are created unique in the image of God, we can observe our world and see places where human beings are making visible the characteristics of God.

Humans are unique beings who have the ability to reflect on an action and deem it sacrificial or courageous.

I think our admiration of courage and sacrifice stems from a common place within all of us because all human beings are uniquely created in the image of God. We can observe our world and see places where human beings are making visible the characteristics of God.

When we admire courage and sacrifice, we are often assuming that human life is valuable.

Make it Personal

  • What is a sacrificial or courageous act that you have witnessed? Did it move you to see God in that act?

  • What are some ways that we can act courageously and sacrificially to demonstrate our value of being made in God’s image to others?

As you may already know, Samaritan’s Purse set up a field hospital in Central Park to help with patient overflow due to the Covid outbreak. The following video was posted by Whitley Tilson, a 53 year old retired hedge fund manager from New York. What he says in the first few minutes had an impact on me. As a liberal and an unbeliever, it must have taken courage to say some of the things he said. The Spirit was clearly moving on the heart of this man. The first part of the video (~ 16 minutes) is the gist of the whole thing. There may be a bad word in there somewhere but, again, what an impact the love of Jesus in action had upon this unbeliever.

We act courageously when we love those who don’t look, act, think or believe like we do. That is what our Savior has done for us. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hope you enjoy,
