Deconstruction and subtraction stories

I’ve been hearing a lot about deconstruction, an “ism” that has been gaining power since the Enlightenment and Reformation. It seems to be typified by “radical individualism” and its tearing apart relationships both in the wider culture and in the church. But another term I’ve heard is “subtraction”, and I’m not sure how it fits with, affects or contrasts with deconstruction. Am I correct in guessing that subtraction stories (debunking everything, most notably orthodox Christian beliefs) is a means of deconstructing the church and ultimately the world?
