I know this might sound like a pretty crazy question and I’m sure you get a lot of them but, since we know that our God did not create evil but gave us a choice to choose to obey Him or to disobey Him, then does this mean that when Lucifer chose to disobey, he was the one who created evil? God didn’t create him to be evil (right?) but gave him a choice to choose between obeying and disobeying. But, in our Creator’s foreknowledge, He knew that Lucifer would disobey, correct? So, God planned salvation for sinful mankind before time began, before the foundation of the world, before man was ever created. Does this mean that Lucifer was the creator of evil since he had the freedom to choose and his choice was what first initiated evil (disobedience) in the heavens?
You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer FROM THE BEGINNING, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, HE SPEAKS FROM HIS OWN RESOURCES, for he is a liar and the father of it.
John 8:44 NKJV
@Corey The answer to the question is no, the evil one did not create. Both John 1 and Colossians 1 clearly state that all things were created by and for the one true God.
Colossians 1:15-17 - The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
John 1:1-5 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
Now, you had a second part to your question that sounded like - ‘what is evil? where did it come from?’ That is a very difficult problem that theologians are still struggling to figure out. My approach is as follows:
God created creatures capable of making choices
when those creatures choose to make choices that go against God’s character, we call that evil
evil is not a ‘thing’ - it was never created. Evil is the choice of a creature to seek its own destiny apart from the Creator - it is a rejection of God. In that sense, no one created evil. Evil is a word used to describe a choice - and it was God who created creatures capable of making choices.
Do you think that is a rational argument? Do you see any weaknesses?
