In some ways, I’m reticent to start another post as I have been gone so much recently and have not been involved with many of the posts and there have been a flurry of them. But the Easter season in particular, reminds me of the custom in the ancient civilization of washing feet. Of course, practical issues were involved with dirty, dust feet needing to be washed. But more was conveyed in feet washing as seen in Jesus washing the disciples feet as well as Jesus’ feet being washed with tears as well as with a costly ointment.
Many times, the custom has been employed even in a culture that does not need to have their feet cleaned. My question is, how can we “wash each others’ feet” in the church and what, do you feel, is the significance in doing so?
