What do you say, to someone who says “Jesus is just like a holy man of that time, We have Sai Baba and such people today. We need to use common sense, there is a God but different religions call him different things. If there was a holy man performing miracles today, I would be his follower.”
@gladz Ravi does a very good job of handling this question. He points out that the religions of the world are superficially similar, but fundamentally different. For example, consider just a few aspects of Christ’s teaching:
- the human condition - Jesus taught all people have sinned and are in need of salvation — many world religions deny original sin and the need for a Savior
- picture of God - Jesus revealed a God who is love and who is also just - justice and love met at the cross - other religions offer a very different view of God
- source of authority - Jesus taught that the Scriptures are the only true revelation of God — other religions have a different source of authority
Jesus was also very clear when talking to the woman at the well, whom He showed great mercy and love, that salvation is of the Jews; other religions are false.
John 4:22 - You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.
