Meaning of Matthew 23:32

I don’t understand the meaning of Matthew 23:32, “Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers”.

Thank you!

In this passage about the scribes and teachers. In context Jesus is speaking to people about hypocrisy on the part of the scribes and Pharisees. I will call it a scathing rebuke of thier actions.
Matthew 23:31‭-‬32 NKJV
Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers’ guilt.they were adding to the cup of guilt that thier fore fathers began long ago. Just for clarification the word guilt was added to that verse it is not in the KJV version.
Matthew 23:32 KJV Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.
Hope this clears it up for you?
